Dearest seeker,

A while back, I interviewed my gentle yoga students to see what exactly they were needing from our class. I wanted to know what they wanted more of, less of, clarification on. 

Like most every teacher, I thought I knew what my students wanted and needed. I thought they were looking for some kind of connection to the Divine, maybe a little relaxation and rest from their daily lives.

While that was accurate, there was so much more that they needed from class.

 

For those of you who haven’t attended one of my gentle classes, you should know that the group of students I was interviewing was anything but homogeneous. I taught women and men. Twenty somethings with no physical issues at all. Twenty somethings with issues like Crohn’s and Lupus. Middle age men and women who left class to go run 5 miles. Middle age men and women who came with spine injuries and scleroderma. Older students who chased after grand kids and ran around town getting things done. Elderly students who struggled getting up and down from the floor. 

It was truly a remarkably diverse group in terms of physical ability. In terms of lifestyle, I had students show up drinking MOUNTAIN DEW at 8am (you know who you are). I had students eating vegan, whole, paleo, or maybe-today-is-chocolate-cake-only diets. I had business people in class right next to true to the core hippies in class. A group of differences in all ways. 

And yet.

Their answers to the interview questions were simple in their wording, but profound in the story they shared. All these people, different ages and backgrounds and lifestyles… they all wanted one thing in common. 

To learn how to manage stress and to calm the voice in their head that said they weren’t doing enough.

Over and over and over again I heard the same thing in different words.

“I want to be able to be at peace with my mind.”

 

“I need help releasing stress and stopping negative thoughts.”

 

“I struggle with anxiety, anger, and fear the most.”

 

“I want to be here in the now, rather than comparing or wondering if this is where I am supposed to be in life.”

So I’ve put together an 8 week series of lessons on stress and how to manage it.

I don’t recommend crazy challenging yoga sequences or demand hours of meditation at a time. These lessons are based on yogic philosophy of using the body to calm the mind, but they are rooted in Hanna Somatics and use only gentle, easy movements that anyone can do.

The most time I ever ask you to commit to is 15 minutes a few times a week. Because here’s the thing- we all can dream big and plan bigger. We can say we’ll wake up early, stay up late, cut down on busy work… but it never seems to work out that way. So instead I’ve created bite sized practices from 5-15 minutes that you can fit into your day. Some of them you can even do while you’re rocking the baby to sleep or checking your mail. 

It’s reasonable, which makes it do-able. We are more likely to stick to new habits that are within reach and don’t ask us to radically change our lives. That’s the beauty of these practices. Simple, easy to adopt, and certain to start a snowball effect of small meaningful changes in your life.

Each week I’ll share an audio file with a short informative lesson on a healing modality that has been PROVEN to assist in managing stress.
We’ll cover breathwork, yoga, hanna somatics, EFT tapping, and body awareness. You’ll learn how each modality works on the body and mind, how to incorporate it into your life, and tips for adjusting it to fit into your week ahead. 

8 weekly short practice plans:
Then, you can download the practice sheet for the week which will have short but powerful 5-15 minute practices to incorporate that modality into your life. You get to test it for the week and see how it works for you before moving on to the next modality. 

Final lesson to create your own tailored stress busting plan:
At the end, we’ll briefly go over lifestyle changes and behavior health psychology techniques to help you create lasting change. I’ll also help you blend the practices from the previous weeks into a healing plan tailored to YOUR needs and preferences.
